Calling all young members!

On November 22nd, Unite’s Young Members’ Committee will be holding an open forum in our Dublin office (55/56 Middle Abbey Street) from 5 pm. Items for discussion will include plans for campaigning, as well as how best to can build a strong and fighting union in your workplace.

Unite Irish Policy Conference

Youth committee members did fantastic work over the last few day at the Unite Irish Policy Conference. Members spoke on a range of issues and the Youth Committee motion to reaffirm the union position of support to the Jobstown Protesters on trial at the moment.

Unite Youth Ireland made a fantastic showing at the Young Members Conference 2017.

Two motions successfully passed, with an interesting and lively debate.

Bus Eireann and Privatisation

Bus Eireann

Yesterday Unite announced that its members in Bus Éireann have voted unanimously in favour of strike action. The news follows the company’s threatened unilateral implementation of a drastic cuts package on February 20th.  Tomorrow the unions involved will be meeting in Unite offices to agree on a course of action in response to the forced implementation of cuts.

Unite Regional Officer Willie Quigley said:

T[he] ballot result reflects the anger felt by Unite members and other Bus Éireann workers at the company’s behaviour during the past number of months, and in particular the past fortnight. Their refusal to engage in an arranged hearing at the Labour Court in December has been compounded by a deliberate strategy of selective media leaks and threats designed to intimidate the workforce and confuse the public.
